THE BACK STORY

The Client Request

In late 2017 New Narrative was hired by Teresa’s son and daughter to create a celebration of life that was as unique and lively as Teresa, herself. She specifically wanted a vibrant party and not a ‘regular’ and sad funeral.

“I don’t want an f-ing sobfest” - Teresa

Her family had the venue and the vision, and our job was to turn this into an 80s themed celebration of life that did her proud.

THE PROCESS

Planning

With the venue already secured (Vancouver’s Science World) New Narrative stepped in to transform Teresa's vision into a reality.

We faced the challenge of create the entire experience almost from scratch. We had the venue, the date, and the time, but spent several meetings with Teresa’s family to learn about her personality, her preferences, and pitch ideas that would be true to her legacy.

Together, we meticulously coordinated every aspect of the day, from coordinating the ceremony speakers, to creating the event schedule, arranging furniture rentals, and hiring a professional bartending service.

To capture the essence of Teresa's life, we suggested an interactive memory station, allowing guests to share photos and heartfelt messages. The comprehensive outline ensured a seamless flow throughout the day, leading up to the sunset speeches on the Green Roof, with the main party happening right after.

ON THE DAY

Celebration

Guests arrived at Science World decked out in full 80s outfits in Teresa’s honour and had their pictures taken in front of a homemade backdrop with her favourite nickname: #WineSoakedCougar.

Heartfelt speeches filled the green roof at Science World and after guests had their appies and drinks, we moved the party downstairs into the main area of the venue where guests could party to the sounds of March Hare, set up and ready to party.

During March Hare’s set, Teresa’s daughter took the stage, starting that part of the evening by singing “Kung Fu Fighting” in Teresa’s honour. The drinks were flowing, guests were celebrating, and her presence was felt in all ways in everyone who attended.
